ARMY OF ONE

 In my designs I like to capture a moment. If possible, tell a story.

The idea behind this design comes from the Coldplay song "Army of One". I really liked the over all theme of searching for something you love and doing all that you can to find it. The lyrics suggest that it is a lonely road to travel but following your heart will lead you in the right direction. This is something I feel connected with when trying to find the path for my creativity.

When finding a character to showcase that story, I looked back at the anime and manga, GATE. So many of the characters involved with the story of GATE travel across worlds to connect and resolve conflicts. One of those characters we meet is Rory Mercury, a demigoddess of darkness, death, crime, madness and war. In the anime we often see Rory taking on unbeatable odds but still comes out on top without much struggle. I loved that "Army of one" nature she has so it was easy to pick her for the job. For the background, I wanted to have Rory alone in Tokyo help explain the anime and theme of the design. In the anime Rory does come to "our" world for the first time. I can only imagine how alone that must make someone feel.
